The German carmaker is currently testing its all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE model which should be presented in a year from now. The new Mercedes represents the second generation model and will bring some significant changes. Those will include the new platform, some small yet noticeable upgrades in the exterior design making it sleeker and more handsome. As well, the interior will get the all-new dual-screen setup and some nice detailing.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE powertrains
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE will return with the same engines as the 2019 model year and there is a range of V-6, plug-in hybrid, V-8, and diesel units. So, the base model uses a 3.5-liter V-6 engine which can develop 302 hp and the torque of 273 pound-feet. It is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission and it can hit 60 mph in about 7.5 seconds.
There is also a plug-in hybrid model which combines the same 3.5-liter V-6 engine with electric motors and lithium-ion batteries. The total output of this engine is 436 horses and its all-electric range is around 21 miles. This unit can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds.
The next s a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine and can develop 385 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. It is linked to a 9-speed automatic and all-wheel drive system. As well, it needs around 5.6 seconds to reach 60 mph. Furthermore, the range-topping models are equipped with a V-8 twin-turbo engine which in the GLE63 can make 550 hp and 516 pound-feet of torque. In the GLE63S model, this unit is able to generate 577 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque.
Design of exterior and interior
The all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE has been spotted during its testing under the camouflage but we could notice some changes in its external appearance. It will represent the next generation model and it will be the second model in the lineup to ride on Mercedes’ MHA platform. As for the exterior, the new Mercedes will feature more athletic and sleeker design and will get a new larger rear spoiler.
Inside, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE comes with two-row seating configuration and can welcome five passengers. The front seats are highly comfortable and spacious although the second row will be a bit tight to place three adults. But the headroom is really generous. The cargo room with seats up is more than 38 cubic feet while with the second row folded down, it increases to 80.3 cubes.
Furthermore, the 2020 model year will now feature a revised dashboard with the new dual-screen design. As well, it will get ambient lighting, air vents, and an available third row of seats.
The standard equipment will include a power sunroof, a power liftgate, dual-zone climate control, synthetic leather upholstery, a power driver seat, Bluetooth, power features, and so on.
Release date and price of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE will be revealed in the middle of 2019. The pricing is not yet known, but we assume that it could get a bit higher compared to the current model which begins at around $55,700.
