According to the latest news, the manufacturer is working on the new 2020 Subaru Outback. It is an attractive crossover SUV which offers very good engine choices, roomy interior, and plenty of standard and optional features. It is also excellent to handle and shows great off-road capabilities. The upcoming 2020 model year probably won’t get any larger changes. But we expect small yet noticeable upgrades in almost every field.
Engine and performance of the 2020 Subaru Outback
The new 2020 Subaru Outback will most likely return with the same engines as before and there are two options. The base is a 2.5-liter flat-4 which is able to produce 175 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. This engine works with a continuously variable transmission and comes with all-wheel drive system as standard. This fuel economy of the flat-4 engine is estimated to be 25 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined.
The optional engine is a 3.6-liter flat-6 which can develop 256 hp and 247 pound-feet of torque. It comes with horizontally opposed cylinder layout which provides a lower center of gravity and therefore provides better handling. This unit also pairs with a CVT and all-wheel drive configuration is standard. It is rated at 20 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined.
Design of exterior and interior
The 2020 Subaru Outback will most likely continue with its wagon-like, crossover shape with a rugged appearance which we find attractive. The front end wears the familiar hexagonal grille and a pair of nicely looking headlamps which are available with steering-responsive units. We will also notice the familiar roof racks which are standard on every trim level. However, there will be some visual changes depending on a trim level. So, the Limited model will get larger wheels while the top-line Touring model will feature a low-profile roof rack with no cross bars.
All the 2020 Subaru Outbacks will come with standard two-row seating configuration. And will be able to welcome up to five passengers. The front seats are highly comfortable, even at long drives, and they are 8-way manually adjustable while on the higher trims it comes with 10-way power adjustable seats. The rear seats are also cozy and there is a rear-seat climate control as standard. The base model will come with cloth seats while the leather upholstery is standard on higher trim levels. The Outback has the cargo room of 36 cubic feet. And with the second row folded down, it expands to nearly 73 cubes.
The standard equipment of every model includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen for infotainment and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, power features, Bluetooth, cruise control, automatic headlamps, and so on. The higher trims will add an 8.0-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, four USB ports, heated front seats, and many other features.
Release date and price of the 2020 Subaru Outback
It is not yet confirmed, but the 2020 Subaru Outback might be presented sometime in the middle of 2019. The price is not yet known, and we assume that it might start at around $26,500.
