The upcoming 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB is the company’s latest compact crossover. This model will slot below GLC and above GLA models. It will arrive this fall and the price will start below $40,000. Interestingly, the compact crossover will offer an optional third-row. Great news, but we are a little bit skeptical about the legroom in the back.
Another interesting thing about GLB is its off-road capability. This crossover is based on the last year’s concept. Mercedes did the whole thing very quickly. Concept and one year later, boom we have a new model. No surprises from the inside as the 2020 GLB will offer luxury interior. To complete the story, Mercedes is offering a turbocharged engine.
Exterior Details
Now that we’ve seen the final version, we must admit that the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB looks impressive. The compact crossover is very attractive in every possible way. First things that caught our attention was all-terrain tires, short overhangs, and roof-mounted LED spotlights. As we already wrote, GLB slots between the GLA and GLC models. Interestingly, GLB offers a 111-inch wheelbase.
That instantly puts this crossover in line with Audi Q5 and BMW X3. However, GLB offers an optional third-row, a significant advantage. Very important thing is that the upcoming 2020 GLB looks very close to the original concept. The final product looks slightly boxier and more rugged. However, the design looks premium and styling is truly impressive.
Optional Third Row
Mercedes did it once again. The all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB comes with a premium interior design. It’s not like we are surprised, but the interior looks really impressive. The highlight of the new cabin is its optional third-row. We are not sure how the compact crossover will deal with the third-row. However, Mercedes promises generous room in the back. Whatsoever, Mercedes said the third row is good for two medium-size occupants. On the other hand, we didn’t believe in the concept that came with three rows of seats.
Now, GLB is here. Interior is packed with plush materials. Open-pore wood trims and exclusive nubuck-leather upholstery are looking very luxury. On top of that, seats are accented with a cashmere White Mango stitches. The dashboard is similar to the dash inside the new Mercedes A-Class. IMBUX infotainment system is working incredibly great. You should take a look at the gorgeous instrument cluster that is similar to the one inside the B-Class. The cabin is premium and stylish, what else do you need?
Turbocharged Engine
Mercedes’ newest compact crossover will offer a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine. This gasoline unit was presented in the original concept. The same drivetrain powers the current Mercedes A-Class. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB will get 221 horses and 258 lb-ft of torque. Of course, this engine is available in the United States. On top of that, 8-speed dual-clutch transmission is offered.
A 4Matic AWD setup is standard. For Europe, 2020 GLB arrive with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder. It generates 163 hp and 185 lb-ft of twist. A 7-speed automatic gearbox is available in Europe. GLB will be an off-road capable crossover. We don’t expect this model to tackle every possible rough terrain, but still, give it a try.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB Price and Release Date
The new model will arrive as a 7-seat compact crossover with off-road abilities. The all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB will arrive this fall and it will cost $38,000. In the future, we can surely expect the high-performance GLB AMG variant. However, for 2020, Mercedes won’t pull additional surprises.
