Another electric SUV is about to roll off the production track, get ready for 2024 Hyundai Tucson. This is the best selling SUV made by Hyundai. But it is not on the top of the market in the SUV segment. There are too many competitors to come on top with being mediocre. So the South Korean manufacturer needs to step their game up. The competition is fierce and there are a lot of changes that need to be made to the upcoming Tucson. It is a small crossover, without the possibility of the third row for passengers. It is quite fuel efficient and well designed. But the car maker decided to do a bit of a redesign.
The interior could get some updates and newer technology. Also doing a better job of putting things where they should be could make it feel less cramped. On the outside the design is good. We could expect minor tweaks to improve handling and balance. The powertrain is where we are in for a treat. There are rumors about a possibility of full electrification. This makes sense as there are numerous SUVs coming up with just a battery pack. If Hyundai wants to get on top this is one step they need to take.
Let’s read in more detail about the upcoming Tucson.
2024 Hyundai Tucson Exterior Changes
On the outside the SUV looks quite well. We get a sleek looking 2024 Hyundai Tucson with a lot of curves. This gives it good aerodynamics and better handling. Ride height is nice, over 8 inches. It resides on 19 inch wheels with sharp looking lightweight aluminum alloy rims. Thin tires so no off-roading for the new Tucson.
On the front we should not see a mesh or air intakes. This is due to the fact that the 2024 Hyundai Tucson should come as an electric variant only. Under the hood is a storage space and not a powertrain. We get nice looking headlights. They are linear and there are 4 of them.
What’s New Inside?
On the inside we should get a lot of updates. The seating needs more cushioning to make the ride more comfortable. Lumbar support is important and should be given attention. Heated and ventilated seats are a must, perhaps even the massaging feature. But we got new upholstery. So this means contrast stitching with multiple colors to go with genuine leather. Instrument panel has a touchscreen for infotainment. We should get a digital dashboard to parallel the new electric version of the Tucson. This is a five seater as there is no third row capability. But we get a huge trunk which is great.
Sunroof would be an improvement along with ambient lightning. We are curious if Hyundai implements hands free driving. This is one of the most sought after features currently in the automotive industry. This would enable drivers to relax a bit behind the steering wheel, but not fall asleep. We should get at least 200000 miles of pre-mapped inter-state roads. There is a question whether Hyundai should develop their own software or borrow an existing one.
Motor Specs
If the powertrain comes unchanged we will be surprised honestly. Currently the Tucson is powered by a 2.5 liter four cylinder engine. It has 187 horsepower and 182 pound feet of torque. This is decent, but many battery powered SUVs have much more than that. It is quite cheap when it comes to fuel consumption so it has an upside. You don’t expect to drag race this crossover SUV but still a bit more power would be a good idea.\
The process of electrification isn’t a cheap one or an easy one. So what does Hyundai have to do in order for this to work out properly. Well for starters, a new platform would be needed. This is because electrification requires a lot of components. And due to being too heavy they have no place under the hood. The best place for them would be under the cabin. This also helps with stability and balance during driving. This would free up space for storage under the hood. Most newer SUVs come with a 100 kWh battery. This sounds lackluster and weak.
Well on paper it gives most crossovers more than 300 horsepower and more than 300 miles of single charge range. Well putting a 150kWh battery pack is a simple upgrade but gives a lot of benefits. Hopefully the new 2024 Hyundai Tucson will be sold as an electric version only. There are 2 hybrid versions currently and they are not all too amazing. We have a 1.6 liter turbo four with 221 horsepower. Second option is a PHEV model that has 1.6 liter turbo four as well but with a stronger electric motor. This produces 265 horsepower and more range due to the electric motor. Fast charging should be present as well as peer to peer charging. Going electric with Tucson would be a huge selling point. Saving the environment and saving a lot of money on gas that is getting more expensive as you read this. It’s a no brainer honestly in our book.
Fuel Economy
Currently the Tucson gets around 33 miles per gallon. This is decent for an SUV of that size. But an electric version of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson could go up to 90 mpge. Which is a huge upgrade. This saves a lot of money. There are some manufacturers that give out several years of free charging when you buy their electric vehicle. Hopefully Hyundai sees this as an opportunity.
2024 Hyundai Tucson Price and Release Date
Hopefully the release date is summer of 2023. This would put the 2024 Hyundai Tucson right on time to compete with other electric SUVs.
Direct competition is fierce, to mention some: Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester, Ford Escape. Price is not known at the moment, but based on previous pricing and specifications we estimate the price of $26,000 for the starting trim.
