According to numerous reports, we can expect plenty of updates on the all-new 2021 Mazda CX-5. By many opinions, CX-5 is Mazda’s flagship model, and the manufacturer delivers important updates every two years. Surely, new upgrades on this compact crossover will boost the sales.
A redesign is just a rumor for now, just like the hybrid powertrain option. Still, Mazda is offering its CX-5 on numerous markets, including the United States. For that reason, some version will still offer a diesel engine as well. On the other hand, the new turbo engine is certain, and it will be optional.
2021 CX-5 Exterior Redesign
The upcoming 2021 Mazda CX-5 will hit the dealerships with big updates. After the 2019 model getting essential upgrades, the 2021 variant will surely introduce some drastic changes. Once again, the KODO design language is easy to spot. Basically, every company’s new model wears the very same design language that looks astonishing. The changes for 2021 includes a new front grille with more chrome accents and new taillights.
The bumpers are looking smaller this time, while 17-inch alloy wheels are intact. CX-5 crossover continues to ride on the very same platform as its predecessor. For that reason, we don’t expect dimensional changes of any kind. Thanks to that, new CX-5 remains 179.1 inches long and 72.5 inches wide.
Interior Changes

Still, if you want something more luxurious, you’ll have to buy a Signature trim level.
On the other hand, the base model looks good, provides great comfort and plenty of legroom in both rows. Speaking of which, the new CX-5 comes with a room for five passengers. The only thing we don’t like about this crossover is its cargo area. As a matter of fact, the CX-5 crossover provides only 60 cubic feet of space.
New Turbo Engine
Currently, CX-5 crossover is using a 2.5-liter engine that can produce 190 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. This unit is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and an optional AWD system is more than recommended. You don’t have to worry about its fuel efficiency as the gasoline engine delivers 28 mpg combined.
However, if you want more power, a new 2021 Mazda CX-5 will offer a new turbocharged engine. This four-cylinder output generates 250 horses and 310 lb-ft of twists. Unfortunately, Mazda offers this engine only on the range-topping trim levels. More precisely, only Grand Touring and Signature models are offering engine with a turbocharger.
Hybrid and Diesel Rumors
In the last couple of weeks, new 2021 Mazda CX-5 has been a subject of numerous speculations. This compact crossover could introduce a hybrid powertrain option. Moreover, the Japanese manufacturer will bring a diesel-hybrid setup. This should boost fuel efficiency, and CX-5 Hybrid will also deliver more power.
As for the diesel powertrain, CX-5 offers one in Europe. A 2.2-liter Skyactiv turbodiesel cranks out 150 hp and 280 lb-ft of twisting power. Hybrid will surely produce closer to the 200 horses and 300 lb-ft of torque. However, this is just another rumor, and we’ll write about it once it becomes official.
2021 Mazda CX-5 Price and Release Date
The price of the approaching 2021 Mazda CX-5 starts at $26,500. If you want more luxury, the Grand Touring trim level is a good choice, and it costs $34,000. However, the range-topping Signature model is available for around $42,000. New CX-5 crossover will rival Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Moreover, Mazda will release its new compact crossover in the second half of 2020.
