Another SUV is about to hit the market, it is the 2024 Cadillac XT6. This is another excellent product from a well-known manufacturer. The XT6 redesign is a much-awaited one. It was about time that the Cadillac gave it the attention it deserved. The current model is not a top seller, it has some flaws. But overall it is a decent-looking well performing SUV. But if they mean to make it a top-selling vehicle, they need to put all their ducks in a row and get to work. The upcoming XT6 should receive much-needed upgrades in several regards.
The interior could be more upscale. The luxury is there, but there are more luxurious SUVs on the market, just look at the Lincoln ones. So better technology is needed in the cabin as well as upgraded seating arrangement. The outside is poised to look quite similar to the previous iteration. This is a good thing as the exterior was a good side of the XT6. The powertrain is a big question mark. It could and should receive some updates. Also, there is a possibility for full electrification to happen. The times are changing and regulations are becoming stricter. Let’s take a look at the whole picture concerning the XT6.
Cadillac XT6 Interior
The refreshed 2024 Cadillac XT6 is improving a lot on the inside. And this was a much-needed change since the competitors really upped their game. The interior of the Cadillac is available for two different arrangements, seven- and eight-seat configurations, with either two captain’s chairs or a bench with three seats in the second row. A third row that can accommodate three people is standard on every XT6.
Comparing the XT6’s interior appointments to those of the Audi Q7 or BMW X5, they fall short. There is barely enough room for three carry-on luggage in the cargo area. However, lowering the last two rows creates adequate space for 31 suitcases. When the seats are folded down, the Q7 can only fit 25 cases behind its third row, making the XT6 a better option if you frequently need to transport large and bulky stuff.
Exterior Refresh
The outside of the 2024 Cadillac XT6 as we mentioned isn’t changing too much. The exterior will look as in previous versions. The look it had was contemporary and there isn’t much that needs changing. Some minor body design upgrades to add aerodynamics and ergonomics.
This also helps with fuel economy and handling. The wheels are 6-spoke 20-inch lightweight aluminum ones. This shaves off some weight from the already heavy SUV and improves speed and mileage. There are many colors to choose from for the exterior which is always a big plus.
Engine Specs, Transmission
As things stand for the 2024 Cadillac XT6, there won’t be any new powertrain updates. This is not a bad thing per se, although the big SUV could use a bit more output. It is a big SUV after all and the XT6 needs a lot of juice to move around. The current powertrain lineup is good and reliable, per reports, it doesn’t need too much maintenance. According to the customer’s chosen trim level, we can offer some interesting engine statistics. The first option is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with 238 horsepower. An alternative would be a V-6 engine with a maximum output of 315 horsepower.
On each of these variations, the 9-speed automatic transmission with options for AWD and FWD drivetrains will be standard. There will be a choice of three trim levels, dubbed Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport, respectively. The Sport model will include an extra torque-vectoring back differential incorporated into its setup, despite the fact that the first two will have very high-performance capabilities. The bundle with the most features and options should be the so-called Platinum one. Regardless of the trim level they select, the new XT6 appears to provide normal buyers with more than enough capabilities in its standard setup. Customers will still have the choice of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 237 horsepower or a 310-horsepower V-6 engine from the manufacturer.
A nine-speed automatic transmission that can transfer power either to the frontal axle or all four wheels is coupled to both powertrains. Although we have all expected it, electrification is not going to happen this time around. The regulations and laws about emissions are changing and becoming more strict. This is not a good look for gasoline engines, even more, less for diesel ones. In that regard, many manufacturers are switching to green energy. Fully electric SUVs are already on the road and it is not that much of a problem to make the switch.
The platform should be changed usually for all the electric components. But there isn’t even a need to develop a new platform, there are plenty on the market. A battery of at least 150 kWh should be enough to move the big SUV around. As a matter of fact, that big of a battery pack should be more than enough to outmatch the current performance of the XT6. Unfortunately, we will have to wait for at least one more redesign for this change to happen. But we are sure that Cadillac is already looking in that direction and not just for the SUV line of their fleet.
Fuel Economy
The new 2024 Cadillac XT6 is quite good when it comes to fuel economy. The turbo four engine gets 21 mpg in the city and 27 on the open road. While the V6 model gets 19 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway. When compared to its competition it is holding on. But introducing a hybrid model here should improve those numbers greatly. Not to mention how much an electric powertrain could help the fuel economy.
2024 Cadillac XT6 Price and Release Date
The upcoming 2024 Cadillac XT6 is poised to make a debut during the 2023 calendar year. Probably towards the end of it, fall is the most likely time. There are three trims that will dictate the price of the XT6. We have Luxury for $49000, Premium Luxury for $56000, and Sport for $61000.
