The upcoming 2022 GMC Jimmy is a new compact off-roading SUV that will take on models such as Jeep Wrangler. Of course, everyone is focused on Wrangler and the all-new Ford Bronco. However, Jimmy could easily steal the spotlight for plenty of reasons. It is a body-on-frame model that rides on GM’s relatively new midsize-truck platform. First details about the new Jimmy are available and we can’t wait to see this model on the roads.
Its design is attractive and Jimmy comes with stylish wheels and much more. The interior is well-equipped and the comfort is great. More importantly, GMC will offer a reliable V6 engine that also powers the current GMC Canyon model. The sales will begin later in 2021.
2022 Jimmy Looks Modern
In terms of design, the new 2022 GMC Jimmy will look attractive and modern. The manufacturer confirmed a new off-road SUV after revealing the GMC Hummer EV pickup truck. Now, Jimmy is in the works and the goal is to rival the famous Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco models. As we said, Jimmy is a body-on-frame SUV that rides on a brand’s midsize-truck architecture.
The same platform underpins models such as GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado. Visually, Jimmy comes with a nice-looking front fascia. Whatsoever, the front part is similar to the GMC Acadia. On the other hand, Jimmy looks unique with brand-new headlights and a slimmer grille design.
Interior Details
The truck-based model such as the 2022 GMC Jimmy will offer a surprisingly modern interior. Jimmy is a compact SUV with two rows of seats and a room for five passengers. Comfort is great, but the interior room could be an issue, especially for the rear occupants. Visually, the cabin won’t largely depart from the cabin of the GMC Acadia. Thanks to that, we expect a similar design and almost the same interior layout.
We are not sure if Jimmy will offer a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen or Wi-Fi hotspot. We don’t have exact interior details so all we can do at this moment is to predict. On the other hand, we are sure that the GMC will offer standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and various USB ports. Moreover, things such as the Pro Safety Plus package or Wireless will be optional.
V6 Gasoline Available, Diesel Engine Won’t Happen
Sharing the platform with GMC Canyon clearly suggests the same engine option as well. Thanks to that, a new 2022 GMC Jimmy will offer a proven 3.6-liter V6 unit with 308 horses. Moreover, this engine generates 275 lb-ft of torque. This is more than enough for good off-roading capabilities. However, Wrangler offers a diesel engine so it is clear that Jeep has a huge advantage in this category.
We doubt that the Jimmy SUV will offer a diesel powertrain. GM said that Jimmy will offer an eight-speed automatic transmission. Again, the customers would like to see a manual transmission at least as an option.
2022 GMC Jimmy Price and Release Date
To this day, General Motors didn’t say anything about a possible release date or the price of a new 2022 GMC Jimmy. Reliable reports are suggesting the price that starts at around $30,000. As for the release date, this compact off-road SUV will probably hit the dealerships in the last quarter of 2021.
