We just adored the Mazda CX -7 in the past. And yes we have already written about this model last year, and we are disappointed that 2020 CX-7 didn’t show up.
However, again are a lot of rumors about the comeback of the Mazda CX-7 compact SUV. The vehicle was discontinued in 2012, but the company is not going to leave this spot empty for a long time. A vehicle we see in Japan as CX-8 might be produced for the rest of the world as CX-7.
But, that is not all. Mazda is after a hybrid crossover. The next one could be the 2022 Mazda CX-7. Furthermore, the SUV will need a redesign, and the radical changes could turn it into a coupe model.
Engine Options
The new 2022 Mazda CX-7 will rely on the SkyActiv technology, that is the only certain things. This system makes the Japanese carmaker so popular. Engines are consuming fuel as diesel units, but gasoline mills are not so big polluters. Still, a 2.5-liter four-pot unit is the first powerplant coming to our minds. Depending on the size of the CX-7, the drivetrain will be turbocharged and deliver 250 hp. If not, the crossover will get 160 horsepower. The old unit, a 2.3-liter displacement, is not in use anymore.
Besides the petrol engine, Mazda is using a diesel powertrain. A 2.2-liter turbodiesel is good for 170 hp and 290 lb-ft. Still, this one is definitely not a choice for US customers, since it cannot meet emission and efficiency standards in this part of the world…yet!
2022 Mazda CX-7 To Get Hybrid Powertrain?
One of the things we expect from the new Mazda CX-7 is to become a hybrid crossover. No matter what shape and size it takes, the Japanese manufacturer will need such a unit in the lineup. Well, a 2.5-liter engine is a good base for a hybrid upgrade. More about this CX-7 hybrid option you can find at futuresuvs.com.
With the standard configuration returning 28 mpg combined, fans can expect big things from a hybrid version. Can it compete with Toyota Rav4 and Honda CR-V? Unlikely. But, in future, who knows?
2021 Mazda CX-7 Will Be Coupe SUV
These rumors are not proven, but the company could go after the coupe crossover SUV. There is no too much competition in this segment. The bad thing is that buyers are not so keen on such vehicles as well. But, this could be the breakthrough. The Japanese company is well-known for its stunning design and experimenting in this segment. The coupe crossover would not be a surprise.
Is the Mazda CX-7 really coming back?
Our predictions are definitely YES. It isn’t yet known if this model will come under the name Mazda CX-7, or whether this model will be labeled as CX-70. According to the just-auto.com
