The newest 2020 Ford Expedition should be presented next year and will probably get some minor changes this time. Besides some small new details in styling and more exterior colors, the interior might be upgraded with more standard equipment. For now, the engine will remain the same, but a hybrid version is also expected to be offered in the future.
2020 Ford Expedition engine and performance
Like its predecessor, the 2020 Ford Expedition will return with the same engine and there will be one single option for all the models. So, it is going to be a 3.5-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engine which will have the output of 375 horses and 470 pound-feet of torque. However, in the Expedition Platinum, this model will be able to make 400 horsepower and the torque of 480 lb-ft. The engine will be linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission and will be available with rear-wheel drive as standard and optional all-wheel drive configuration.
When it comes to fuel economy, the standard RWD model will get 17/24 mpg while the all-wheel drive version will be rated at 17/22 mpg. There will also be the MAX front-wheel drive model which will get 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive Max version is rated at 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.
On the other hand, at some point in future, we can also expect the hybrid version of this model. However, we aren’t informed whether the 2020 model year will be offered with a hybrid unit or we will have to wait a bit longer.
The exterior and interior design of the 2020 Ford Expedition
The 2020 Ford Expedition will feature a bold and clean design as its predecessor and this time it might get just some small upgrades. The front end will get a softer grille and the familiar C-shaped headlights. The profile will get a bit retro design and will feature tall doors. The rear end will be dominated by the simple taillights and a chrome strip with expedition insignia written in large letters. The Expedition will ride on standard 18-inch wheels while the larger 20- and 21-inchers will be optional.
As for the interior, the 2020 Ford Expedition provides a spacious cabin with three rows of seats for seven passengers and a generous cargo space. Behind the third row, it has the room of 20.9 cubes which expands to 63.6 cubic feet with the second folded down. Fold down the third row as well, and you get the cargo room of 104.6 cubes. The Max model offers even more cargo room.
The standard Expedition comes with a power driver seat, cruise control, several USB ports, climate control, nine speakers, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, etc. The higher trim levels will add heated and ventilated seats, multi-zone climate control, leather seats, active noise cancellation, Ford’s Sync 3 system, and so on.
Release date and price
The new 2020 Ford Expedition is expected to arrive in 2019, most likely in the second half of the same year. We assume that its price will start at around $52,000.
