If you like luxurious SUVs, you are going to love the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq. This is going to be a fully electric SUV, which is all-new for Cadillac. Cadillac woved to stop producing internal combustion engines and fully go green in a matter of eight years. We will see if this is feasible and how they are going to achieve this. We will probably get to see Ultium technology at work here. No other technologies are on par with this one and we suspect Cadillac is going to implement the best option out there.
We are used to Cadillac vehicles coming with a certain amount of luxury. We can only blame them for spoiling us in the past with beautifully designed vehicles. So we can expect a brand new interior. It is, after all, their first electric SUV and we reckon they want to make it look special and feel that way as well. On the outside, we can expect a modern look and beautifully designed details. Of course, some things are trim dependent but we will wait on that one. The powertrain option is probably the most interesting part of this SUV.
Let’s dive deeper into the review and see what will come with this new release.
2024 Cadillac Lyriq Design
The exterior is amazing looking. It has a sleek and modern design. A lot of curves and angles. The wheels are 19-inch lightweight rims. They look sharp as if coming off of a sports car. Thin tires though, which points to no off-roading for the Lyriq.
The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq has no mesh on the front. Under the hood, we can find an extra storage compartment due to the lack of a traditional engine. Everything is under the cabin which improves balance, handling, and steering on the road. Ride height is increased and bumpers are prominent. They protrude a bit. There is a unified LED bar above the Cadillac sign. The manufacturer really tried to make this Lyriq distinguishable from other vehicles since it is a special milestone.
Modern Interior
On the inside, it is a classic Cadillac. The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq is sprinkled with a lot of luxuries and great new technology. The seating is improved with more cushioning and better lumbar support. Looking at the price tag we can guess that heated and ventilated seats are present. Also, massaging features should be available in this model. Infotainment is standard with a 13-inch touchscreen. This is enough for both rows to join in on the fun. There won’t be a third-row capability for the Lyriq.
The dashboard is also digital and this is great since it can be customized to track all the wanted information. Standard safety features are implemented. Along with that, we will get SuperCruise. This is hands-free driving software from GM. It covers over 200000 miles of pre-mapped interstate roads in the US.
2024 Cadillac Lyriq Engine
This is a big jump from the traditional engine. The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq is going to be a fully electric SUV. There are some details surrounding the planned build. Currently, it is a single motor rear-wheel drive model. It has an electric motor that can produce 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. It is a 12-module setup, a 100 kWh battery which might sound like not enough. The estimated range with this build should be 312 miles. This is past the minimum wanted range of 300 miles. No one likes stopping too often for charging their vehicle. This comes with a fast charging feature for sure. And peer to peer charging should be present.
With 10 minutes of charging expect to get an extra 76 miles. This is enabled with a 190kW DC fast charger. Those are available at most charging stations. For those charging at home, this might be a bit of a letdown. With a 19.2 kW AC fast charger you can get 52 miles per hour. In America, buyers can choose the level of regeneration with the brand new Regen on Demand technology. It uses a pressure-sensitive paddle which can be found on a steering wheel. There is also a Lyriq with AWD that will have a dual motor setup. One motor for each axle. The expected power on this setup is 500 horsepower which is more than enough.
Towing Capacity, Millage
This model can tow up to 3500 pounds. But the range will suffer, so expect less than 300 miles with this battery and two motors. Perhaps increasing battery size to 150kWh or even 200 would do the trick. This step is enabling Cadillac to future-proof their vehicle and save the environment by going green. It will be interesting to see if the manufacturer tries to make a habit of making electric vehicles and implementing this technology on other cars.
The most probable technology to be used is Ultium. It has a proven track record and is a reliable option. Perhaps Cadillac develops its own architecture but that is unlikely at this point in time. Also, the platform on which the Lyriq resides will have to be changed. Mainly because the battery packs and all other components are quite heavy and they need a place under the cabin to reside.
Fuel Economy
With the electric motor setup, we can expect 92 mpg in the city and 82 on the highway. This is quite good when compared to other electric vehicles on the market.
2024 Cadillac Lyriq Price and Release Date
The price for the rear-wheel drive model of the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq is $62,990 while the AWD model is $64,990.
But you also get two years of unlimited charging credit which is amazing. Expect the Lyriq to go on the production track in the summer of 2023.
Looks like a great car! JLH
