The upcoming 2020 Mazda CX-4 is the company’s new crossover. The all-new generation will arrive in North America for the first time. As you probably know, this model is available in Asia, mainly in China. Mazda plans to make the CX-4 a global model.
First rumors suggested the name Mazda CX-30, however, that will not happen. Logically, CX-4 will slot between the CX-3 and CX-5 models. It comes with an attractive design and interior is premium. Under the hood, this model will introduce two powertrains. The European version is already available, and the U.S. model will look very similar.
Exterior Facelift
Mazda introduced its new crossover at the Geneva Auto Show. Well, at least we think we are dealing with the 2020 Mazda CX-4. The teaser image doesn’t show too much of details. CX-4 is a compact crossover with a wide stance. On the teaser photo, taillights are available with the LED accents. Moreover, taillights are rounded. The new body style is easy to spot at first glance.
Rakish roofline looks premium, just like the rest of the exterior design. However, the front fascia is still hiding too many details. In China, CX-4 model is based on the CX-5 model. U.S. model will surely look more unique and will depart from the Asian variant. Coupe-like roofline looks modern and Kodo design language is present once again.
Interior Details
The all-new 2020 Mazda CX-4 will get a premium interior. The manufacturer will provide a similar cabin to the larger CX-5 model. Center stack layout is almost the same. Moreover, infotainment display is the same while the A/C vents are rectangular. Center console and steering wheel are also borrowed from the CX-5 crossover. However, CX-4 will look more upscale.
From the inside, you will find aluminum and chrome inserts, leather upholstery with contrast stitching and various different finishes. Logically, CX-4 will be roomier than the CX-3 crossover. However, thanks to the new interior layout, CX-4 will provide almost interior room as the larger CX-5 model.
Possible Drivetrain Options
Unlike the Asian CX-4, the model in the United States will surely get different engines. The 2020 Mazda CX-4 will surely deliver its Skyactiv lineup of engines. That includes both the diesel and gasoline variants. Mazda’s unique engines are known for incredible power performance. On top of that, Mazda’s spark controlled compression ignition system is present once again. However, it is not yet clear which engines will make the production.
There are no doubts about the possible drivetrain options. The 2020 CX-4 will borrow powerplant from the CX-5 and CX-30 models. A 2.0-liter SkyActiv will be a standard output that generates 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. A 2.5-liter SkyActiv will probably become available as an option. This output is rated at 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of twist.
2020 Mazda CX-4 Price and Release Date
The price of the CX-4 will start somewhere between the CX-3 and CX-5 models. The compact crossover will be built at the new plant in Alabama. The same plant is shared with Toyota. New Mazda CX-4 will cost around $25,000 and it will arrive in the last quarter of 2019.
