The forthcoming 2020 GMC Yukon XL is about to arrive. The full-size SUV will get the same type of upgrades as the standard Yukon model. Yukon XL offers ample passenger room and that includes the third row. This model also comes with a great safety rating.
There will be up to four trim levels, which includes the iconic Denali variant. Engines are powerful and generally, the performance is great. Overall, it is a perfect family SUV that can accommodate up to nine passengers. The 2020 Yukon XL will get a slight exterior redesign and the interior will be modernized.
Exterior Redesign
The all-new 2020 GMC Yukon XL will look imposing. It is a robust full-size SUV that will get some visual upgrades. The unique headlights are unchanged and grille looks slightly larger. In the back, taillights are revised and the rear bumper looks more premium. The side profile will get slightly sharper lines and new optional wheels. Standard 18-inch wheels are intact.
However, the customers can now buy 22-inch alloy wheels. Upper trims are available with more chrome accents. Yukon XL Denali will offer HID headlights, unique exterior paints, and the Ultimate package. This package adds a power sunroof, Midnight Silver exterior color, and power-retractable running boards.
Yukon XL Dimensions
This full-size SUV is not recommended for drivers with small experience. The 2020 GMC Yukon XL is 80.5 inches wide and 74.4 inches tall. On top of that, this SUV is 224.4 inches long. Maneuvering in tight spaces could be difficult. So if you have a lot of driving experience, you will manage to park new Yukon XL with no problem. Yukon XL model offers a 130-inch wheelbase.
GMC Yukon vs GMC Yukon XL
The difference between the regular Yukon and Yukon XL is in length. Basically, both models are offering the same standard upholstery and features. On top of that, both models are looking visually the same. Same trim levels are available and that includes the rest of the stuff such as exterior paints and optional features. However, the 2020 GMC Yukon XL is 20 inches longer than the standard Yukon model.
Thanks to those extra inches, Yukon XL offers 39.3 cubic feet of cargo space. On the other hand, the base Yukon model offers “only” 15.3 cubic-feet of room. Yukon XL also has more room in the third row. Whatsoever, XL variant offers almost 10 inches of extra legroom. Yukon XL is also available with a larger gas tank with five extra gallons. As for the turning radius, Yukon offers 19.4 feet and XL 21.5 feet.
Engine and Transmission
There won’t be any changes and upgrades under the hood. The 2020 GMC Yukon XL comes with the same pair of drivetrains. A smaller 5.3-liter V8 is producing 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. If you opt for the Denali trim, you will get a larger 6.2-liter V8. This engine delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of twist.
Both units are available with Active Fuel Management and Variable Valve Timing systems. The base engine is available with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Optional V8 unit comes with a standard 8-speed automatic gearbox.
2020 GMC Yukon XL Price and Release Date
The upcoming 2020 GMC Yukon XL comes in four trim levels. The base model starts at $54,000. Regular Yukon model will cost around $50,000.
Both models will arrive at the same time, in the second half of 2019. Denali trim will cost over $70,000 in both variants.
