Mitsubishi is working on the new 2020 Outlander which will be launched next year and should bring several upgrades. So, the PHEV model should provide a better all-electric range. Visually, we might see some small changes in terms of new exterior colors and new wheels while the cabin might get more optional features.
Engines and performances of the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander
The 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander will be available with three types of engines beneath its hood. So, the base is a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine which can generate 166 horses and 162 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be mated to a continuously variable transmission and will be offered with front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The FWD model will get 25 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive model is rated at 24/29 mpg. This unit has the towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.
The next option is a 3.0-liter V-6 engine. This unit is able to produce 224 horses and 215 lb-ft of torque. It is linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission and comes with AWD as standard. Furthermore, it can tow up to 3,500 pounds. As for the fuel economy, it is estimated to be 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
Furthermore, the Outlander also has a plug-in hybrid unit. And it is a combination of a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery of 13.8 kWh. This engine has an all-electric range of 22 miles. It is rated at 25 mpg combined and 74 MPG e. It also works with a continuously variable transmission.
The exterior and interior design
Visually, the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander will continue with its well-known and simple design and familiar angular front fascia. There will be a well-known grille with nice chrome accents and prominent headlamps. The base model will ride on standard 18-inch wheels which will now look more luxurious. The rear end will also look handsome will feature many chrome accents. Naturally, the PHEV model will get unique badging also.
The 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander will get the standard three-row seating configuration and will have the seating for seven passengers. The cabin is quiet and pleasant, and there are some nice black-gloss finishes on the center console and many control which are easy to use. The cargo space with all seats up measures 10.3 cubic feet. Furthermore, with the third row folded down, it expands to 34.2 cubes and with the second row is laid down, it increases to 63.3 cubic feet.
Equipment
The standard equipment of 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander will include a 7.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, keyless ignition, several USB ports, a rearview camera, dual-zone climate control, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The higher trim levels will add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a heated steering wheel, LED headlights, leather upholstery, power tailgate, and so on.
Release date and price
The new 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander should arrive sometime next year. The price probably won’t be much different from the current and it will begin at roughly $25,000.
