There’s a new kid on the block: the 2024 Subaru Forester. This redesign is coming in just in time; most manufacturers are refreshing their creations as well. So it was about time that Subaru gave the same treatment to one of their top sellers. The Forester is one of those legendary vehicles that Subaru made and is still holding on even after many years.
Perhaps it isn’t the top seller and the leader in the market. But it is a long-lasting, sturdy, and reliable vehicle. And with this redesign, it might get more fighting power to outmatch its fierce and numerous competition. The upcoming SUV refresh is one that should bring a lot of positive changes to an already good platform. The interior is a bit stale, and in today’s time, there is a need for good style even in not-so-luxurious vehicles.
So updating that should bring much greater appeal. On the outside, we won’t see any drastic changes. Only minor tweaks and functional improvements will be found on the outside of this rugged SUV. The powertrain is a big question mark, and it remains to be seen what Subaru has in store for us. Let’s look at the whole picture that concerns the Forester redesign.
Subaru Forester Interior Design
The fresh 2024 Subaru Forester is looking as good as ever. The seating is improved, and the two-row SUV looks stylish on the inside. There is enough room for five passengers, and if you fold the back row, there is a great deal of cargo space to be used.
The dashboard is digital, which is a nice step toward the future, and the infotainment system is unchanged. There are chrome accents along the cabin for some extra luxury points. As well as heating and ventilation inside the seats. This is sure to improve comfort, even on the bumpiest rides.
Exterior Upgrades
The updated 2024 Subaru Forester looks similar on the outside to its predecessors. The wheel rims are lightweight and 17 inches in diameter. But there is an option for all-terrain tires that might come in handy. This SUV is looking rugged, and it belongs outside on the wild path.
No winch or hook capabilities. The front fascia is black and wide, with a Subaru logo. Headlights have an updated design and look futuristic. The ride height is increased in order to not get anything stuck under you.
Engine Specs
The new 2024 Subaru Forester is still the powerful and sturdy beast that it always was. The SUV was always imagined as a bit of an off-roader. Subaru is looking to keep that streak going and continue in the same fashion. That is why they blessed it with a good and reliable engine. And we wouldn’t want it any other way. There will be only one powertrain option to choose from.
This is not a bad thing, as the engine in question is a powerful one. We are talking about a 2.5-liter, flat-four-cylinder engine. This beast can produce 182 horsepower and has a maximum towing capacity of 1500 pounds. Not bad for your everyday SUV. It comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission, better known as a CVT. This distributes the power from the engine to all four wheels, which is perfect for off-roading.
It isn’t the fastest of the bunch. It reaches 60mph in 8 seconds, which is a bit of a letdown. But the Forester isn’t a drag racer in any regard. The handling is quite good, and there are also adjustable shocks that make the ride more comfortable, especially in rugged terrain. The steering is also very reactive, and the brakes can stop you on a dime, which can come in handy.
There is an obvious lack of electric and hybrid versions of the engine. It is still unclear why Subaru chose this path. Because many manufacturers are figuring out hybrid and electric solutions, not just for their SUVs but for their whole fleets. And it would make sense in today’s time and age that they make the switch and go fully green. We have multiple examples of electric powertrains being implemented with great success in SUVs.
There are several really good ones on the market currently. And it is our belief that it would be fitting for a Subaru SUV to make that change as well. The platform needs to be updated in order to accommodate the electrical powertrain and all of its components. The battery pack would need to be bigger. The SUV is not on the smaller side, so 150 kWh is the bare minimum.
This would, per some calculations, outmatch the current performance of the Forester and give it many other benefits. These include better power, handling, longevity, and the much sought-after fuel economy. However, there are no indications of these upgrades. No one knows why is that. We might see this happen on the next redesign; until then, we will have to sit tight.
Fuel Economy
Currently, the fresh 2024 Subaru Forester is not too expensive to keep running. On the contrary, it is quite cheap and is among the best in class when mileage is concerned. All that without a hybrid engine is a great feat to achieve. It achieves 26 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway. If we added a simple hybrid system with at least one electrical motor, we would see those numbers skyrocket.
2024 Subaru Forester Price and Release Date
The upcoming 2024 Subaru Forester is almost ready; we will be able to see it later in 2023. Probably towards the end of the calendar year. There are several trims, and buyers might be spoiled for choice. We have “based” for $27000, “premium” for $30000, “sport” for $32000, “limited” for $34000, “wilderness” for $35000, and “touring” for $37000. All are great options, and it will need variety to come out on top in such fierce competition.
