The all-new 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge is the company’s first all-electric vehicle. This model will go on sale later in 2020, and it will cost below $50,000. On top of that, Recharge variant will provide an estimated range of 200 miles. And while the regular XC40 is using a four-cylinder turbocharged engine, Recharge will provide an electric powertrain.
Moreover, this output will deliver 402 horsepower. As every all-electric model nowadays, XC40 Recharge also comes with a standard all-wheel-drive system. No doubt, this small electric crossover will become an instant hit once it arrives.
2021 XC40 Recharge Driving Range
Volvo said the upcoming 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge will deliver a range of 250 miles. This crossover is yet to be tested on the EPA scale. Furthermore, the Swedish carmaker said the combined Recharge’s range is around 200 miles.
This makes more sense, and those figures are similar to Audi’s new e-Tron model. Charging is another mystery at the moment. New XC40 will probably need around 40 minutes to charge up to 80 percent of its capacity. Of course, we are talking about the fast-charge system.
Powertrain Specs
Instead of the conventional gasoline engine, the new 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge will use an electrified powertrain. The regular model is using a turbocharged four-cylinder output. On the other hand, Recharge version will deliver 402 horsepower, according to Swedish manufacturer.
That’s a whopping power figure and we’ll see if Volvo was right. Additionally, this crossover will offer a standard all-wheel-drive system. Volvo says that the XC40 will be both efficient and quick. Moreover, this crossover will need 4.9 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph.
XC40 Vs. XC40 Recharge
Besides different powertrain, the new 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge will depart from the base model in some other categories. For a start, Recharge comes with unique front fascia. Instead of traditional grille, electric version will offer a flush surface. The main reason for this styling cue is that there is no engine under the hood.
Furthermore, no engine means more storage space in the so-called “frunk”. As Volvo’s latest model, the new XC40 Recharge will also introduce latest technology inside the cabin. That includes the infotainment system, Google’s Android system, Google Assistant and even Google Store. If you are Apple’s user, no worries. Volvo is still offering Apple CarPlay.
2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge Price and Release Date
The approaching 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge will cost under $50,000. The exact price is not available yet, but Swedish manufacturer promised the cost less than luxury SUVs such as Jaguar I-Pace or Audi e-Tron. Still, Hyundai Kona EV is more affordable than all mentioned models. The sales will start later in 2020, possibly next fall.
Further Plans
Volvo has huge plans for the future. We all know the stories about Volvo’s upcoming models that will be the most autonomous models in the world. Moreover, after the 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge, the company will release new electric vehicles every year.
On top of that, Swedish automaker will look to minimize the energy impact in every possible way. By 2025, Volvo will reduce the climate footprint by 40 percent, which sounds very promising. Finally, by 2040, the company will be completely climate-neutral.
