If you’re in a market for a mid-size SUV which looks stylish, offers great safety and infotainment features, and has a sufficient room, then you might want to check out the new 2020 Kia Sportage. The new Kia will come with two engine options and available all-wheel drive system. Visually, it shouldn’t differ much from the current model, and this time might get some new exterior shades. As well, we expect the similar design of the cabin as in its forerunner.
Engines and performances of the 2020 Kia Sportage
Like its forerunner, the 2020 Kia Sportage is expected to arrive with two engine options beneath the hood. The base is going to be a 2.4-liter inline-4 unit which will be able to make 181 horses and 175 lb-ft of torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. And it will be available with front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The front-wheel drive LX model will get 23/30 mpg while the EX model will be rated at 22/29 mpg. The AWD variant is estimated to be 21 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
The stronger version will be a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine. This one will be capable of producing 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It will use the same 6-speed automatic and will come with FWD and AWD layouts. The front-wheel drive model will be rated at 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Connected to AWD, this unit will get 20/23 mpg in the city/highway drive.
The design of exterior and interior
Design-wise, the 2020 Kia Sportage will look bold, simple, and well-proportioned as before. It will feature a short wheelbase and overhangs. The front end will wear the prominent mesh tiger-nose grille and narrow, highly positioned headlamps. The SX Turbo models will have dual exhaust pipes and LED fog lights. The base model will ride on the 18-inch wheels while the higher trim levels will get the larger 19-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin of the 2020 Kia Sportage has two rows of seats and can welcome five passengers. The front seats are cozy and the driver’s seat is a 6-way adjustable in the base model. The second row comes with a bench which can place up to three. The second row can be folded down which increases the cargo room to 60.1 cubic feet. With all seats up, the Sportage has the room of 30.7 cubes. In the center of the dash, there is a standard 5.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The standard equipment of the 2020 Kia Sportage will include a rearview camera, AM/FM/CD player with 6 speakers, Bluetooth, USB port, and automatic headlamps. The EX model will add cross-traffic alert, blind-spot detection, glossy interior trim, a larger 7.0-inch touchscreen, a power tailgate, Harman Kardon audio, leather upholstery, power driver’s seat, and dual-zone climate control.
Release date and price
There is still no news about the arrival of the 2020 Kia Sportage. But it could appear sometime next year. The price shouldn’t differ much from the current which starts at around $24,500.
