The upcoming 2022 Kia Sorento is a couple of months away. Most likely, this SUV will hit the dealerships in the second half of 2021. Kia will provide an exterior redesign and this mid-size crossover will also ride on a new platform. It is the next-gen Sorento so drastic changes are perfectly reasonable. Besides new styling, the interior will also gain some new amenities and a slightly different design.
As a result, the 2022 Sorento will be a more modern and more attractive SUV. As for the powertrain options, Kia will surely provide a new engine. However, the existing units will most likely remain, including the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.
2022 Sorento Redesign
New 2022 Kia Sorento is ready for further refreshments. This mid-size SUV comes with a boxier shape and bolder exterior design. The 2022MY will bring an exterior design and a new platform is reportedly in the works as well. Thanks to that, the new Sorento will be slightly larger than the outgoing model. Moreover, Sorento will provide better ride quality and its new architecture will accommodate the hybrid system as well.
Kia will opt for a crossover-like approach with a modernized side profile and new front fascia. New Sorento will wear a recognizable “tiger-nose” grille, new LED headlights, and the hood that is reshaped. The side profile will look more distinctive and Kia will offer everything from 17-inch to 20-inch wheels. Generally, we think slightly larger proportions and a new design will attract even more customers.
In addition to the Sorrento, KIA is refreshing other SUVs. According to suvs2022.com, the new Soul will get a 10.25-inch touch-screen.
Interior Changes
As for the cabin updates, the 2022 Kia Sorento will provide a lot of them. A three-row seating layout remains but the new interior design will provide a more modern look. Slightly larger dimensions will offer even more interior room and Sorento can accommodate up to seven passengers. The dashboard comes with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and another 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Everything depends on the chosen trim level and the base variant offers a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen. Moreover, you will get a new audio system and wireless charging pad as well. The cabin design is great as everything looks very stylish and modern. Kia will offer new ambient lighting, more driver-assistance aids, and more soft surfaces.
Engine Specs
As we already said, the 2022 Kia Sorento will offer new engine options. There will be up to four different powertrains and everything starts with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 191 horsepower. If you want more power, another 2.5-liter engine is available. It comes with a turbocharger and it cranks out 281 hp. Both units are equipped with a standard front-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
What we like about the new 2022 Sorento is its eco-friendly hybrid system. A 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine is mated to a 44-kW electric motor. A plug-in hybrid variant will use a turbocharged version and a stronger 66.9-kW electric motor. This model will deploy a standard all-wheel-drive setup. Exact specs are not available yet but Kia said the new model will tow around 3500 pounds.
2022 Kia Sorento Release Date, Price
The forthcoming 2022 Kia Sorento will hit the dealerships in the second half of 2021. However, a precise launch date is not available yet. The price will start at $29,500 which is more than ever before. The Korean manufacturer will reveal more details in the coming months and we hope to see even more upgrades.
