The next-gen 2020 VW Touareg is about to arrive and it will look amazing. Touareg will enter its third-generation and it will make a debut in China later this year. Also, this model will become available in Europe as well. Unfortunately, markets in North America won’t see new Volkswagen’s SUV. Touareg will offer plenty of changes. Perhaps the most significant will be the all-new V8 TDI diesel engine.
With diesel, Touareg will provide astonishing power. Also, new Touareg is now wider and longer than its predecessor. Despite dimensional changes, Volkswagen says the vehicle will lose 235 pounds. Interior will get plenty of upgrades too and we can count on more standard safety systems. Overall, the new 2020 Touareg looks very promising. However, this is the last diesel model that made the production in the VW’s lineup.
Exterior Facelift
Third-gen 2020 VW Touareg comes with numerous design upgrades. The mid-size SUV will be slightly wider and longer than the current model. Volkswagen says the new Touareg will be 235 lighter thanks to the use of aluminum materials and additional chassis tweaks. Touareg will be three inches longer and the SUV will ride on the MLB platform. Same architecture underpins models such as Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7.
Front part now comes with new headlights and bolder front bumper. At the back, changes are less drastic. “Touareg” lettering sits in the trunk and taillights are equipped with LED technology as well. The longer model means larger A-pillars and slightly larger glass. 18-inch wheels are still standard and new 21-inch alloy wheels are available too.
Interior Features
Touareg SUV still offers a room for five passengers. The two-row configuration remains and interior will get further refreshments. The 2020 VW Touareg comes with a new 12-inch all-digital instrument cluster. Optionally, a larger 15-inch display is available. Air vents are slightly moved down below. The new night vision system will be optional.
List of standard equipment is really long and new Touareg will get more safety aids as well. However, almost all of the premium features are still optional. That includes sliding panoramic sunroof and sound system with 14 speakers. Also, massaging front seats and four-zone climate control are optional too. Comfort is truly great but if you want real luxury, you’ll have to opt for upper trim levels.
New V8 TDI Diesel Engine
The forthcoming 2020 VW Touareg will get a new powertrain. A powerful 4.0-liter V8 TDI diesel engine is now in the offer. This unit is producing up to 415 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. Volkswagen said this will be the last V8 diesel engine you’ll see. Even if Touareg arrives in the United States, it will be gasoline-powered. 3.0-liter V6 gasoline will be standard and it cranks out 335 horsepower.
New Touareg will offer the same gasoline lineup for the European market. In China, mid-size SUV will offer a standard 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel that generates 282 horses and 286 lb-ft of twist. Also, Volkswagen will introduce a new plug-in hybrid system. However, the hybrid drivetrain is made for China markets only.
2020 VW Touareg Price and Release Date
The all-new 2020 VW Touareg will become automaker’s flagship model. According to the latest reports, Touareg could arrive next month in China.
Touareg won’t be offered in the United States. The mid-size SUV will cost around $50,000.
